Dundas Cactus Festival 2006


The Friends of the Dundas Library will hold the annual Dundas Cactus Festival Book Sale on August 19-20, 2006. The sale starts at Saturday at 9.30 am, at the Dundas Public Library, 18 Ogilvie Street, Dundas. The popular “Bag Book Sale” starts promptly on Sunday at 2.30 pm. Book donations for the sale welcomed – please drop off at the Library. All funds raised will benefit the Dundas branch of the Hamilton Public Library.

Printing for Pleasure: Aspects of the Private Press


The Friends are pleased to present in its series of Local Authors, William Rueter, a private printer, hand binder and printmaker living in Dundas. The tradition of making books by hand for pleasure rather than profit is almost as old as the history of printing. He will illustrate the history and creative activity of the private press, its influence on publishing and on society. He will show, in addition to the work of The Aliquando Press, examples of contemporary private presses.

William studied at the City Literary Institute, London, England, and the Ontario College of Art. He has taught graphic design in Canada, Barbados and the Philippines, and bookbinding at the Dundas Valley School of Art. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art and is a past nominee for the Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Crafts.

Cactus Festival Book Sale

Friends of the Dundas Library held its annual Cactus Festival Book Sale on August 21 and 22, 2004. Starting at 9.00 am, Saturday 21st, at the Dundas Public Library branch, at 18 Ogilvie Street, Dundas. Sunday times are 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Donations of books of all kind are welcomed. Just drop off at the DPL, or phone 905 627 3507. All funds raised are used to support the Dundas Public Library. For 2006 the Book Sale will again be held in the August, Cactus Festival Week

 

Local Authors and Persons of Interest

The Friends introduce local authors and musicians through a programme of Sunday afternoon events held in the library. These events are advertised in the Dundas Star News and in stores throughout the downtown area. Refreshments are provided. Donations to support the library appreciated.
